Pacific Rim (film)

Pacific Rim is a 2013 science fiction film directed by Guillermo del Toro, and starring Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, and Ron Perlman. The screenplay is by Travis Beacham and del Toro, with a story by Beacham.

In 2013, an interdimensional portal, the Breach, appears at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean. From the Breach, giant monsters called Kaiju periodically emerge and attack cities on the Pacific Rim. The United Nations fund the Jaeger Program to construct the Jaegers, giant mecha robots, to fight the Kaiju. Each Jaegers is controlled by two or more pilots, who are mentally linked called drifting to share the mental burden of piloting the machines.In 2020, pilots Raleigh and Yancy Becket are assigned to protect the Alaskan coastline from a Kaiju in their Jaeger, Gipsy Danger. The Kaiju survives their initial assault and blindsides Gipsy Danger, wrecking it and killing Yancy. Raleigh singlehandedly kills the Kaiju and pilots the heavily damaged Gipsy Danger back to shore. Traumatized by Yancys death, he quits the program. ........
